The scan compares song records using artist and title information. It does not delete tracks, change records or modify your RadioDJ database.

Matching artist and title values do not always mean the records are unwanted duplicates. Different edits, remixes, versions or audio files may intentionally share the same metadata.

What counts as a duplicate?

The scanner primarily looks for multiple song records with matching artist and title values.

Differences in capitalisation or spacing may still indicate that two records refer to the same track.

The report can also help identify repeated imports where the same audio file was added more than once.

Legitimate matches

Radio edits
A station may keep both the original and a shortened radio version.

Remixes
Different mixes can share similar or identical artist and title metadata.

Clean versions
Explicit and clean versions may intentionally exist as separate records.

Different audio quality
The same track may have been imported in different formats or bitrates.

Before deleting records

Confirm the file path, duration, category and version before removing any result.

Check whether the record is used in rotations, playlists, events or scheduled programming.

Create a complete RadioDJ database backup before deleting or merging song records.

Library maintenance

Run the scanner after importing a large music collection or restoring an older database.

Use consistent artist and title formatting to make duplicate detection more reliable.

Review duplicate results regularly to keep searches, rotations and reports easier to manage.
